Presenter Bios


Dan Barron  

Dr. Daniel Barron

Dan Barron is a seventh generation mountaineer who spent 30 years as Professor and Director of the School of Library and Information Science, University of South Carolina, returned home and now is the Director of the AMY Regional Library. He is a successful grantwriter, member of several nonprofit boards, and Coordinator of the Cooperative Collection of the Foundation Center which serves AveryMitchell, Yancey and surrounding counties located in the Spruce Pine Library.


Mary Ellen Boelhower

 

Mary Ellen Boelhower

Mary Ellen Boelhower is director of development for the Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a position she has held for six years. She led the Bryan School’s efforts in UNCG’s Students First Campaign, surpassing th$10M campaign goal by over $3M. Prior to joining UNCG, she wadirector of stewardship at the University of New Hampshire and director of research and education for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. An avid hiker, Mary Ellen loves the North Carolina mountains!


Linda Carter  

Linda Carter

Linda Carter has more than 20 years of experience in alumni relationsat academic institutions and is now the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the UNCG Alumni Association at UNCG, where she previously served as director of development for the UNCG School of Nursing. She has also worked in benefactor relations at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and in alumni relations at MIT and the University of Chicago.


Laura Collins

 

Laura A. Collins

Laura A. Collins is a Tax Senior Manager in KPMG's Southeast Exempt Organization Tax Practice and has exclusively served tax-exempt clients since the early 1990's. Laura joined KPMG in October 1998 from another Big 4 firm. She has assisted clients in IRS Coordinated Examination Program Audits and has participated in the negotiation, appeals and resolution process. Additionally, he has authored numerous exemption applications, reclassification requests, and private letter rulings, two of which have been published by the IRS. Laura earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Salem College. Prior to entering the tax exempt field, Laura worked as a corporate lending officer. In search of a new challenge, Laura entered the field of Taxation by earning a MSA degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and her CPA. She has also taught in the Duke Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management. Laura's parents live in Spruce Pine, thus creating a very special connection for her to Mitchell County and the surrounding area.


Georgann Eubanks  

Georgann Eubanks

Georgann Eubanks is a writer and communications consultant with more than 25 years of progressive experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly in higher education and the arts. She has been involved in market assessment, strategic planning, case writing, and communications planning for organizations ranging from DuUnlimited International to Duke University. She is also an independent producer of documentaries for public television and the author of Literary Trails of the North Carolina Mountains, published by UNC Press.


Tracy Kunkler

 

Tracy Kunkler

Tracy Kunkler, MSW, is the Director of Grant Services at Sims & Steele Consulting, a multi-state fundraising and planning firm based in Asheville. She comes with several years experience consulting as a grant writer with small to mid-sized non-profits and 20 years of non-profit experience in program and grants management, fundraising, volunteer management, community organizing, and outcomes-based evaluation.


Greg Ledford  

Greg Ledford

Greg Ledford has over 20 years of experience with technology and has been teaching computer software education at Mayland Community College for 17 years.

     
Beth Maczda  

Beth Maczda

Beth Maczda is a Program Officer with the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. She has served as an attorney with Pisgah Legal Services in Asheville, as Executive Director of the Affordable Housing Coalition of Asheville and Buncombe County, and as the Western Branch Director of the Self-Help Credit Union. A recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, Beth traveled extensively in India to study women's religious communities.

     
Kim McGuire  

Kim McGuire

Kim McGuire serves as WNC Nonprofit Pathways’ Director. McGuire supervised grantmaking at the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina from 1991-2002 and has over 20 years of experience in both staff and volunteer leadership roles within the nonprofit sector.
