Would you like to take a walk with the library?
Avery-Mitchell-Yancey Regional Library and the Yancey Chamber of Commerce team up to bring you a StoryWalk© project that combines literacy, family, and exercise. The StoryWalk© on Main Street will begin at the Yancey Chamber, where families can pick up a map leading through town with stops at 16 businesses, each displaying a poster in a window or door with pages of a children’s book. Come along and read with us through the town of Burnsville.
The StoryWalk© concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and was developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. The book “I Walk with Vanessa” by Kerascoët is a book from the North Carolina Library Association’s Youth Services Section Diverse Book Grant. Mitchell County Public Library was one of four libraries in the state of North Carolina to receive this grant. Stay tuned for a StoryWalk© coming soon to Mitchell County.
