The Avery County Morrison Public Library is located in Newland, North Carolina. Avery County is home to Grandfather Mountain, the Linville Gorge, and the best snow skiing in the high country of western North Carolina. For more information about Avery County, please go to Avery Chamber of Commerce.
The Sams-Cahoon Library became the first building in Avery County fully dedicated to library service in 1963. Martha Guy was on the library board that helped to plan and raise funds for the new library. Her work for library service to the people of Avery County continued with her helping to raise the funds for the first new library building in 1972. The new building, which remains in use today, was built with funds from the generous benefactor Robert Morrison for whom the Avery County Morrison Public Library is named. Guy and Judge J. Ray Braswell provided funding for the Annex to the library and in 2007, the new Community Meeting Room and Children’s Room were dedicated.
The Avery Morrison Library is grateful to Mr. Morrison for the Morrison Trust, and the Morrison Board Trustees who managed a trust sustaining the library and expanding services for generations to come.
